Danny Thomas to address graduates
Belmont, N.C .- Entertainer Danny Thomas will deliver the commencement address and receive an honorary doctorate next month at Sacred Heart College in Belmont, college officials said Thursday.
In his first speech at the school in 26 years, Thomas will address the 42 graduating seniors at 3:00 pm May 16 in Alumnae Hall. Admission is free but by ticket only; each graduate will get about six tickets, officials said.

Thomas's link to Sacred Heart is his longtime friend, Sister Mary Michel Boulus, the college's president. She will award him the Doctor of Humane Letters degree for his work with Saint Jude's Children's Hospital in Memphis .
Sister Michel and Thomas, both Lebanese Americans, met in 1961 after she asked him to appear at a Sacred Heart concert to raise money for the construction of the Sisters of Mercy Motherhouse. A wing of the house is dedicated to Saint Sharbel, a Lebanese saint.
